Great day yesterday at The Greyt Unite. It’s the first event we’ve held like this but it was such success we have already decided we are doing it again next year. The event was to raise awareness about the racing industry, greyhounds as pets and the exports of racing greyhounds. We also had Tina Wales Solera and her team attend from Spain to talk about the amazing work they do at Galgo Del Sol. Callum Deacy came from Plush Bear who raised awareness about the dog meat trade in China. Mike James & Rita James from Caged were there raising awareness about the racing industry. A speech was read out on behalf of Michele Brown from Fight Dog Meat about dog and cat meat which was very hard to hear but people need to hear it. Also, thank you to the author Miriam Payne and artist Richard Skipworth who also attended. Richard allowed us to use his artwork on a quilt, made by Gwenda, and it raised £2500 in a raffle! Vausages provided vegan food, which was amazing! Birmingham Greyhound Protection and Candy Cane Rescue have grew and grown and that’s down to all the amazing people that give up their time to help the dogs and make both rescues work. Massive thank you to Ann Vickers and Karen Roberts for working so hard on this event. And of course to Edward Tate who let is use this amazing venue and has welcomed us back next year
